Com’è stata l’accoglienza del Milan?

“Incredibile. Mi hanno atteso come un membro della famiglia, e mi ha inorgoglito molto rappresentare nell’automobilismo una società di così alto livello. Tutti sono stati gentilissimi, e ho potuto vedere delle zone dello stadio riservate, assistere al riscaldamento pre-partita dai bordi del campo ed al match dalla Tribuna d’Onore. Insomma: mi hanno fatto sentire importante!”.

In poche ore sei passato dallo storico Stadio di San Siro, allo storico Autodromo di Monza. Cosa hanno in comune questi due mondi?

“Sicuramente la passione. Allo stadio ho incontrato tante persone che mi hanno chiesto informazioni sulla mia attività, sul lavoro in pista, ed anche sulle possibilità di battere il Liverpool! Sia nel calcio che nell’automobilismo ritrovo lo spirito di sacrificio, la dedizione, la professionalità, e quella dose di talento che fa la differenza. Sono sicuro che se portassimo gli spettatori di San Siro sulle tribune di Monza, e viceversa, raccoglieremmo tanti consensi!”.

Adesso tocca a te far vincere il Milan…

“Eh, già. E visto che il periodo calcistico non è dei più fortunati proverò in tutti i modi di portare i colori rossoneri più in alto possibile. E al termine delle due gare di domenica spero anche di avere buone notizie dal campo di Bergamo, dove i “ragazzi” sono certo che supereranno il momento sfortunato”.

L’AC Milan di Pantano corre in casa questo weekend

“Dopo la vittoria nel campionato GP2 nel 2008 ho ricevuto l’offerta di correre in una serie importante come la Superleague, campionato iniziato lo scorso anno e che ha subito incuriosito tanti appassionati per la presenza in pista di monoposto in rappresentanza dei maggiori club di calcio mondiali. Stavo valutando il tutto quando gli organizzatori mi hanno detto che avrei corso per il Milan. Beh, allora non ho più avuto alcun dubbio, e sono sceso in pista con l’orgoglio di rappresentare il club che tifo sin da bambino”.

Pantano, il calcio ed il Milan. Quando nasce la storia?

“Un inizio tradizionale, ovvero la passione per il calcio che si è subita identificata con la maglia rossonera. Poi ho iniziato la mia attività in pista, con il karting, ed il tempo è diventato sempre meno. Ma anche se da lontano, ho sempre seguito le vicende della mia squadra. Oggi quando posso gioco nella nazionale di calcio piloti, e ovviamente seguo sempre le vicende del Milan”.

Il 3 e 4 ottobre arriverà l’attesa gara di casa, su una pista che hai sempre amato e che ti ha sempre ricambiato con grandi giornate.

“Quest’anno l’attesa è ancora maggiore. Ho vinto a Monza tante volte, e con tante monoposto differenti. Il mio feeling con Monza è basato sulle sensazioni di guida, sul fascino di domare curve e cordoli alla ricerca della linea perfetta, delle traiettorie che più di altre permettono di mantenere alta la velocità, ovvero il ‘must’ per andare forte a Monza. Quest’anno arrivo a Monza con un po’ di paura perché quando ho visto i nuovi cordoli costruiti proprio alla vigilia del Gran Premio di Formula 1, mi sono chiesto se sarà ancora possibile guidare come ho fatto fino allo scorso anno. Ma arrivo anche cosciente che sarò in pista sarò il Milan…‘da corsa’, e che ci saranno tanti milanisti nel paddock e sulle tribune”.

Cosa rende Monza così speciale?

“Come credo accada a tutti i piloti, la pista di casa è sempre il contesto dove si corre davanti a tanti sostenitori, amici e fans. Poi nel caso di Monza c’è il fascino di quasi cento anni di storia, ed in più una pista che è rimasta una delle pochissime al mondo che consente medie e punte velocistiche elevatissime. Quando scendo in pista mi sento sempre a mio agio, provo una bella sensazione. E sono sempre stato sicuro di poter far bene, con tanti tipi di monoposto. Nel 2006, con la vettura GP2, ho disputato un weekend perfetto, vincendo le due gare in programma davanti a Lewis Hamilton. Una bella soddisfazione, visto anche che furono le ultime gare che Hamilton disputò prima del suo passaggio in Formula 1”.

Ci sono punti della pista dove si può fare la differenza in modo particolare?

“Fino al 2008 i punti ‘caldi’ erano la Roggia, la seconda di Lesmo e l’Ascari. Soprattutto l’entrata all’Ascari era determinante per tenere una buona velocità fino alla frenata della Parabolica. Tra pochi giorni proverò la configurazione della pista con i nuovi cordoli, e vedrò se qualcosa è cambiato”.

Quest’anno sarai in pista con la Superleague ed i colori dell’AC Milan. Cosa ti aspetti?

“Mi auguro di vedere un grande supporto da parte del pubblico, che avrà occasione di vedere dal vivo un weekend ad alta tensione. Le monoposto, che sono spinte da un potente motore 12 cilindri, daranno spettacolo e ci impegneranno al massimo. Spero di vedere tante bandiere rossonere”.

Come preparerai la gara di Monza?

“Diciamo che cercherò di calarmi nel clima agonistico venendo a San Siro per vedere Milan – Zurigo di Champions League! Verrò a fare il tifo per i ‘ragazzi’, sperando che sia di buon auspicio in vista dell’impegno del weekend seguente”.

Com’è stata finora la tua esperienza nella Superleague e con i colori del Milan?

“Sulla mia classifica di campionato pesa un po’ di sfortuna e qualche episodio che mi ha visto incolpevole vittima. Ma ho trovato un contesto in ascesa, e ho potuto toccare con mano quanto il nome del Milan sia popolare in tutto il mondo. In ogni paese dove abbiamo fatto tappa il Milan è sempre accolto in modo particolare, e c’è sempre un’attenzione maggiore per questi colori. Sul fronte puramente sportivo spero di fare un buon bottino a Monza e di rimanere in corsa per il titolo 2009 in vista dell’ultima gara della stagione in programma dopo Monza sul circuito spagnolo di Jarama”.

C’è un avversario in particolare che temi in vista del weekend di Monza?

“Il livello dei piloti in Superleague è decisamente buono. Cinque piloti sono ex-F1, ed altri sono giovani promettenti o comunque professionisti di grande esperienza in monoposto. Poi l’arrivo di Bourdais non ha fatto che incrementare il gruppo dei ‘top’, ma comunque sono fiducioso sulle mie possibilità di ben figurare. Voglio fare un grande fine settimana, poi vediamo come si metterà in chiave campionato”.

La vittoria di Walker (Borussia Dortmund) conclude il campionato

Il pilota inglese, alla sua seconda apparizione nel campionato dopo aver corso al Nurburgring, ha colto il miglior risultato dell'anno per la squadra tedesca.

“Ieri i problemi alla vettura mi avevano impedito di prendere parte sia alle prove libere che alle qualifiche e dunque, non avendo mai girato su questa pista, mi aspettavo due gare difficili,” ha spiegato il vincitore a fine gara. “Perciò capirete come questa vittoria sia stata una sorpresa ancora maggiore del quarto posto colto al Nurburgring.”

Walker ha poi dedicato il successo ad un suo amico che ha tragicamente perso la vita ieri, nel corso di un incidente aereo.

Alle sue spalle giunge Antonio Pizzonia (SC Corinthians), pilota del team italiano Eurointernational. Il brasiliano, al miglior risultato stagionale, ha ricordato tutti i tifosi del Corinthians che lo seguono con grande affetto.

“In Brasile ci sono milioni di tifosi di questa squadra e da quest'anno hanno iniziato a seguire anche le mie gare con grandissima attenzione,” ha detto. “Al mio ritorno, mi aspettano sempre in aeroporto per festeggiarmi. Nel corso della stagione, spesso la fortuna non mi ha aiutato, ma sono contento di concludere la stagione con un bel podio e spero che, se sarò di nuovo qui nel 2009, le cose possano andare ancora meglio.”

Il neo-campione Davide Rigon (Beijing Gu'Aon), già certo del titolo dopo gara-1, ha disputato un'altra gara molto efficace concludendo al terzo posto con il giro più veloce.

“Ho affrontato questa corsa in modo molto più rilassato, pensando solo a spingere senza fare danni,” ha confessato. “Purtroppo già alla prima curva ho bloccato una gomma e quindi per tutta la prima parte di gara il bilanciamento della monoposto non è stato ottimale. Dopo il pit-stop la vettura è stata perfetta, ma Antonio (Pizzonia) è riuscito a superare il Flamengo prima di me e sono stato costretto a restargli dietro.”

Solo quarto al traguardo Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK), partito dalla pole e rimasto in testa per gran parte della corsa, grazie ad un ritmo inarrivabile per tutti i suoi avversari che gli aveva consentito di guadagnare un vantaggio notevole.

“Ho avuto problemi con il secondo treno di gomme nuove e mi mancava completamente aderenza al posteriore,” ha dichiarato. “Purtroppo questo mi ha portato ad un testacoda con cui ho perso la leadership e anche il podio.”

Quinta posizione per l'AS Roma con Franck Perera: “Questa gara è andata decisamente meglio: abbiamo sostituito i freni e la vettura è migliorata parecchio. Sono riuscito a spingere e a recuperare dalla quattordicesima alla quinta posizione. Sono riuscito ad evitare due incidenti: uno che ha coinvolto il Basilea e l'Olimpiacos e uno con il Flamengo. Peccato per gara-1, sembra proprio che tutto sia a posto solo una gara su due...”

La brutta botta tra Stamatis Katsimis (Olimpiacos CFP) e Max Wissel (FC Basel), la cui vettura è decollata prima di schiantarsi contro le barriere, si è conclusa con il ricovero in ospedale del pilota tedesco, che ha però riportato solo un'escoriazione alla spalla e nessuna frattura.

Tra i risultati sfortunati per i colori italiani, la decima posizione dell'AC Milan con Robert Doornbos, che conclude così al terzo posto il campionato alle spalle del Beijing Gu'Aon e del PSV Eindhoven, e il ritiro per Andy Soucek (Atletico Madrid), pilota dell'Eurointernational, finito in testacoda per aver accelerato troppo rapidamente in uscita dalla chicane, vanificando un'ottima partenza in cui si era portato fino al secondo posto.

Davide Rigon vede il campionato nell'ultima gara in Spagna

La squadra del pilota veneto, il Beijing Guoan, è comodamente in testa alla classifica, con ben 59 punti di vantaggio sul PSV Eindhoven, mentre il Liverpool FC ha altri tre punti di distacco.

In vista dell'ultimo weekend di gara, solo Beijing, PSV, Liverpool e AC Milan sono ancora matematicamente in corsa per la vittoria del campionato.

Con 50 punti a disposizione per ogni vittoria, il Beijing dovrà comunque disputare un buon weekend in Spagna per avere la certezza di raggiungere il proprio traguardo.

Due squadre spagnole e un trio di piloti spagnoli sono altrettanto intenzionate a ben figurare nella propria gara di casa. Borja Garcia (Siviglia) ha colto una vittoria nella gara inaugurale del campionato a Donington Park, ma da allora non è più salito sul podio.

Andy Soucek (Atletico Madrid) ha ottenuto diversi giri più veloci durante il campionato, ma è stato anche vittima di tante sfortune e guai meccanici.

Entrambi i team e i piloti spagnoli cercheranno di emulare le prestazioni del loro rivale del Liverpool FC, Adrian Valles. L'iberico ha ottenuto due vittorie e la pole position nell'ultimo appuntamento del campionato a Vallelunga.

Ma anche se il PSV Eindhoven, il Liverpool FC o l'AC Milan ottenessero due vittorie a Jerez, il Beijing Guoan potrebbe comunque far suo il campionato. Ecco le opzioni:

Se il PSV Eindhoven vincesse entrambe le gare, il Beijing Guoan vincerebbe il campionato:
- Finendo secondo nella prima gara
- Finendo terzo nella prima gara e prendendo semplicemente il via della seconda
- Ottenendo altri 42 punti nelle due gare, per esempio con un 8° e un 9° posto

Se il Liverpool FC vincesse entrambe le gare, il Beijing Guoan vincerebbe il campionato:
- Finendo terzo nella prima gara
- Finendo quarto nella prima gara e prendendo semplicemente il via della seconda
- Ottenendo altri 39 punti nelle due gare, per esempio con due noni posti

Se l'AC Milan vincesse entrambe le gare, il Beijing Guoan vincerebbe il campionato:
- Finendo undicesimo nella prima gara
- Finendo 14° nella prima gara e prendendo semplicemente il via della seconda
- Ottenendo altri 15 punti nelle due gare, per esempio con un 15° e un 16° posto nelle due gare

Il pilota dell'Al Ain, Paul Meijer, continua la sua lotta contro il tempo per essere pronto all'ultima gara di campionato. L'olandese si è rotto la mano in un incidente durante le prove libere a Vallelunga e ha dovuto saltare l'evento. Il suo connazionale Dominick Muermans rimane in standby per sostituirlo nuovamente.

Dopo cinque appuntamenti di campionato, sono sette i team diversi ad avere colto vittorie: Beijing, Siviglia, AC Milan, PSV Eindhoven, Liverpool FC, Al Ain e FC Porto. Sono saliti sul podio anche AS Roma, Tottenham Hotspur, Flamengo, RSC Anderlecht, Galatasaray e Borussia Dortmund.

Nell'inedito format di qualifiche a eliminazione, solo Robert Doornbos (AC Milan) è riuscito a qualificarsi per la fase a scontro diretto in ogni gara di campionato.

LE DICHIARAZIONI DEI PILOTI

DAVIDE RIGON (Beijing Guoan)
"Jerez sarà una pista nuova per me, anche se ci ho svolto un test in GP2 un paio di settimane fa.
"Certamente sono pronto per l'ultimo appuntamento e vorrei conquistare il campionato con un'altra vittoria.
"Vedremo come andrà, ma ho un'ottima vettura e farò del mio meglio. Se avremo dei problemi cercherò almeno di ottenere abbastanza punti da vincere.
"La pista è ottima. Qui correva la Formula 1 e dovrebbe essere molto più semplice sorpassare rispetto a Vallelunga.
"Sarà difficile per il pilota e piuttosto impegnativo andare forte, ma davvero non vedo l'ora.
"In vista dell'ultima gara è piuttosto incredibile avere 59 punti di vantaggio. Ci sono molti piloti veloci in questo campionato e vincere il titolo per il Beijing sarebbe fantastico."

ANDY SOUCEK (Atletico Madrid)
"Ho corso molto qui a Jerez, tra cui quattro anni in Formula 3 spagnola e ho fatto molti test.
"E' una pista che mi piace molto e attendo con vera impazienza il prossimo weekend.
"Abbiamo dimostrato negli ultimi tre appuntamenti che abbiamo grande velocità con molti giri più veloci. Abbiamo un grande potenziale ma meccanicamente abbiamo avuto problemi, perciò speriamo che il team abbia risolto tutti i problemi e che possiamo concludere l'anno con un bel risultato nella nostra gara di casa.
"Questa sarà una gara molto importante per noi perchè molte persone del club dell'Atletico Madrid saranno presenti, perciò speriamo che la nostra fortuna migliori.
"Non punterò al podio, ma alla vittoria. Ci dovremo qualificare bene e lavoreremo sodo per assicurarci di essere in pista in qualifica al momento giusto con le gomme giuste.
"Il team e io vogliamo davvero vincere qui."

ADRIAN VALLES (Liverpool FC)
"Ho corso a Jerez solo una volta, nel 2004, ma questo non è un problema per me perchè mi piace davvero questa pista e non vedo l'ora di tornarci questa settimana.
"E' un'area molto bella e spero di poter far bene lì.
"E' stato un peccato avere avuto qualche problema di motore a Vallelunga, che purtroppo ha messo il Liverpool FC fuori dalla lotta per il titolo, ma dovremo comunque continuare a spingere fino alla fine.
"Non si sa mai cosa possa succedere. Farò del mio meglio per vincere le gare e per approfittare di eventuali problemi del Beijing.
"Il campionato di quest'anno è stato molto bello. La vettura è grandiosa e il motore è molto potente. E' stata uno dei campionati più divertenti in cui abbia mai corso."

La Roma di Perera beffata in extremis dal Porto di Gommendy

Gommendy era stato già autore di un bel sorpasso al 16° giro ai danni del PSV Eindhoven di Yelmer Buurman, che ha concluso al terzo posto.

"Ringrazio il team che mi ha sostenuto fin dall'inizio," ha commentato il vincitore. "La vettura è stata ottima fin dall'inizio e ho dovuto lottare anche contro il dolore alla mano causato dall'incidente nel corso delle seconde prove libere. La scelta dell'uso del push to pass è stata probabilmente la chiave della gara: la vettura era veloce, ma sorpassare è un'altra storia."

"E' molto difficile perdere una vittoria all'ultimo giro," ha spiegato Perera. "Già la gara 1 è stata sfortunata, speravo di rifarmi nella seconda manche per tutti i tifosi, purtroppo dopo l'incidente con Enrico Toccacelo intorno a metà gara ho avuto grossi problemi ai freni."

Fondamentale quinto posto per il leader della classifica Davide Rigon (Beijing Gu'Aon), che vale punti fondamentali in ottica campionato. "Sono molto contento: partendo dall'ultima posizione non potevamo fare di più, in questo circuito dove sorpassare è molto difficile," ha spiegato il veneto. "La gara è stata ottima, il pit stop perfetto e ho pensato anche al campionato senza prendermi troppi rischi."

Sfortunati gli altri italiani: il pilota di casa Enrico Toccacelo (Borussia Dortmund) è uscito di scena per un incidente mentre lottava per la prima posizione con Perera, l'AC Milan di Robert Doornbos e il Corinthians (team Eurointernational) di Antonio Pizzonia sono stati messi fuori gioco già al via da un incidente causato da Tuka Rocha (Flamengo), mentre Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray) è stato vittima di uno scontro con il Tottenham di Duncan Tappy e l'Olympiacos dell'esordiente greco Katsimis.

Ritirato anche il secondo pilota del team Eurointernational, Andy Soucek (Atletico Madrid), dopo ben tre soste, durante la prima delle quali c'è stato anche un momento di tensione. Un meccanico del team, Maurizio Castiglioni, è stato infatti travolto riportando un trauma cranico, ma fortunatamente senza perdere conoscenza. Castiglioni è stato trasportato all'ospedale tramite un'ambulanza per controlli precauzionali.

Fino a quel momento, Soucek aveva mantenuto la testa della corsa imprimendo un grande ritmo, dopo aver superato al via sia il Siviglia di Borja Garcia che il Borussia Dortmund di Toccacelo.

Il prossimo (e ultimo) appuntamento della stagione inaugurale della Superleague Formula è in programma nel weekend del 22-23 novembre sulla pista spagnola di Jerez de la Frontera.

Il pilota del Milan Robert Doornbos allo stadio di San Siro

Doornbos ha mostrato al pubblico il trofeo conquistato nell'ultimo appuntamento della Superleague Formula, all'Estoril, nel quale il club milanese ha conquistato due secondi posti.

Doornbos è stato finora il pilota più costante della Superleague Formula in qualifica: la sua vettura è stata infatti l'unica ad entrare nella fase a eliminazione (destinata ai primi otto piloti) in ogni gara del campionato, cogliendo anche la sua prima vittoria al Nurburgring.

In classifica generale, il Milan è al quarto posto a quota 216 punti.

A 32 km a nord di Roma, il circuito di Vallelunga è stato costruito originariamente nel 1959 e ha ospitato il Gran Premio di Roma. L'attuale configurazione da 4,085 km è stata completata nel 2004.

“Sono già stato nel campo di allenamento dell'AC Milan, a Milanello, ma è la prima volta in cui sono andato a San Siro ad assistere a una partita,” ha detto Doornbos.

“L'AC Milan è in striscia positiva, al momento, e spero di continuarla anche per quanto mi riguarda domenica a Vallelunga. Allo stadio ho incontrato tanti dei miei tifosi e il mio amico olandese Clarence Seedorf, che purtroppo è infortunato.

“Il weekend di Vallelunga sarà incredibile e visitare San Siro è stato un ottimo modo per prepararmi.”

Il weekend di Vallelunga sarà anche sulle frequenze di Sky Sport 2: sabato alle 18:30 andrà in onda una sintesi di 60 minuti delle qualifiche, mentre domenica le due gare saranno trasmesse in differita tra le 14:00 e le 16:00.

Si accende il tifo degli appassionati italiani per la Superleague Formula a Vallelunga

I due club italiani coinvolti, AC Milan e AS Roma, si sono qualificati entrambi nella prima fila della griglia nell'ultimo appuntamento all'Estoril e i due vorranno ripetere le loro prestazioni da podio.

Robert Doornbos, pilota dell'AC Milan, si è dimostrato il più veloce e costante pilota in qualifica, essendo stato l'unico a passare al turno ad eliminazione in tutte le gare dell'anno.

Nella prima gara all'Estoril, l'olandese ha chiuso secondo, per poi recuperare dal fondo della griglia e cogliere un'altra piazza d'onore nella seconda manche con griglia invertita.

Il debuttante Franck Perera ha ottenuto la pole al debutto con l'AS Roma ed in gara 1 ha chiuso al terzo posto. Purtroppo, una collisione con Adrian Valles (Liverpool) lo ha messo fuori gioco in gara 2, ma il giovane francese che ha corso in Formula Atlantic, Champ Car, Indy Lights e IndyCar negli ultimi due anni negli USA ha dimostrato di essere veloce anche in Europa.

Ma non sono solo le formazioni locali a offrire attrazione per i tifosi di casa questa settimana.

L'italiano Davide Rigon è riuscito a portare la sua squadra, il club cinese Beijing Guoan, in testa al campionato fin dal primo round della serie.

Rigon ha concluso al quinto posto in entrambe le gare all'Estoril: un risultato impressionante se si considera che in gara 2 è stato costretto a partire dai box. Grazie a questi punti, il suo vantaggio in vetta alla classifica di campionato si è ulteriormente incrementato.

Anche il romano Enrico Toccacelo è stato velocissimo in Portogallo, alla sua prima apparizione con il suo nuovo club, il Borussia Dortmund.

Il più sfortunato dei piloti della Superleague Formula ha perso però per la seconda volta in questa stagione una vittoria che sembrava ormai in tasca, a causa di problemi tecnici occorsi a pochi chilometri dalla bandiera a scacchi.

Anche la squadra turca del Galatasaray ha un italiano nel proprio abitacolo. Alessandro Pier Guidi ha ottenuto due podi in questa stagione, il secondo proprio nell'ultima gara in Portogallo.

In azione in Superleague Formula ci sono anche dei team italiani.

Sia il Galatasaray che l'AC Milan Superleague Formula Racing Team sono gestiti dall'organizzazione italiana della Scuderia Playteam.

Anhe il Corinthians e l'Atletico Madrid hanno un'influenza italiana, poichè responsabile delle loro prestazioni in pista è l'Eurointernational.

Questa squadra, che corre da entrambe le sponde dell'Atlantico, è stata impegnata nel 2008 con ben 11 vetture sia in Europa che in America, ottenendo anche una vittoria di campionato nella Formula BMW USA.

I media e i tifosi avranno modo di conoscere da vicino la Superleague Formula anche nei giorni precedenti il weekend di Vallelunga.

Doornbos e l'AC Milan terranno una conferenza stampa a Milano il prossimo lunedì, seguita da quella dell'AS Roma con Perera giovedì a Roma.

Entrambi i piloti saranno presenti mercoledì sera alle partite in casa delle rispettive squadre, mostrandosi ai tifosi di casa.

L'azione in pista inizierà sabato con le prove libere e l'inedita sessione di qualifiche a eliminazione. Domenica sono in programma le due gare, la seconda con una griglia completamente invertita per aumentare lo spettacolo

ROBERT DOORNBOS (AC Milan)
“A Vallelunga abbiamo svolto i nostri test pre-stagionali ufficiali e ho concluso con il miglior tempo nei due giorni, per cui non vedo l'ora di tornarci.
“L'AS Roma ha una vettura veloce ora, perciò speriamo di avere un'altra prima fila tutta italiana, che ravviverebbe davvero le cose per i tifosi.
“Andrò a Vallelunga con una vettura veloce e mi sento bene, quindi decisamente punto alla vittoria.”

ALESSANDRO PIER GUIDI (Galatasaray)
“Vallelunga per me è la pista di casa e ci ho girato tanto in passato.
“Ad agosto nel test con la Superleague Formula la nostra vettura del Galatasaray è stata veloce, perciò non vedo l'ora che arrivi la prossima corsa del campionato.
“Sarà grandioso correre con la Superleague Formula in Italia.”

DAVIDE RIGON (Beijing Guoan)
“Attendo con vera impazienza la gara di Vallelunga. Ci ho corso in passato in Formula 3 e Formula 3000 e ho fatto bene. Ho ottenuto una pole e concluso al secondo posto in F3000 e ho anche ottenuto un secondo posto in F3.
“Per me sarà molto importante qualificarmi davanti. A solo due gare dalla fine del campionato, non posso prendermi rischi. Ovviamente se ci sarà la chance di puntare alla vittoria lo farò, perchè vale molti punti.
“Conosco molto bene questa pista e mi piace molto.

ENRICO TOCCACELO (Borussia Dortmund)
“A Vallelunga corsi la mia primissima gara in macchina e la vinsi. Ma non ci corro dal 1999, quando ero in Formula 3, perchè di lì in poi ho fatto gare internazionali.
“Ci torno ancora un po' di volte all'anno per tenere dei corsi di guida, ma ovviamente essendo romano mi piacerebbe molto fare un bel weekend lì.
“Non ho avuto molta fortuna ultimamente perdendo due gare al Nurburgring e all'Estoril mentre ero in testa, ma in Portogallo il nostro passo è stato davvero ottimo e sarebbe grandioso fare un buon weekend a Vallelunga per il team Borussia Dortmund.”

FRANCK PERERA (AS Roma)
“Non vedo davvero l'ora che inizi il weekend. Durante la settimana sarò presente alla partita dell'AS Roma e potrò incontrare alcuni dei tifosi.
“Ora che guido questa vettura, ho migliaia di nuovi tifosi.
“Non giro a Vallelunga da qualche anno, ma spero di avere più fortuna in gara perchè all'Estoril siamo stati molto veloci.
“Abbiamo avuto un problema ai box nella prima gara, poi il Liverpool si è scontrato con me in gara 2 - è stato un peccato perchè la vettura dell'AS Roma era molto competitiva.
“Speriamo di vedere tanti tifosi in pista nel weekend.”

TUTTO PRONTO A VALLELUNGA PER IL DERBY ROMA-MILAN

Entrambe le squadre sono reduci da un weekend molto positivo all'Estoril: la Roma, le cui operazioni in pista sono gestite dalla Fisichella Motor Sport, il team di Giancarlo Fisichella, ha colto la pole position e un podio al debutto del proprio nuovo pilota Franck Perera, mentre il Milan dell'ex-pilota di Formula 1 Robert Doornbos è partito in prima fila e ha portato a casa due secondi posti in altrettante gare. Ora i rossoneri sono al quarto posto in classifica con 216 punti, mentre la Roma occupa il sesto a quota 190: entrambi si trovano ampiamente in lotta per la vittoria del campionato.

La franchigia dei "diavoli" del Milan è gestita dalla milanese Scuderia Playteam, che si occupa anche della formazione turca del Galatasaray, per la quale corre però un pilota italianissimo: Alessandro Pier Guidi, che all'Estoril si è piazzato terzo in gara 2.

Tricolore è anche il leader del campionato, portacolori del piccolo team cinese del Beijing Gu'Aon: Davide Rigon. L'ex-campione italiano ed europeo di Formula 3000 ha raccolto finora la bellezza di 271 punti contro i 236 del primo degli inseguitori (il PSV Eindhoven) e ha nel mirino il primo titolo di questa neonata serie.

Il terzo pilota italiano, che più di tutti giocherà in casa a Vallelunga, è il romano Enrico Toccacelo, accasato alla Roma fino a Zolder e ora passato al BVB Borussia Dortmund.

L’Italia ha addirittura sfiorato la vittoria della corsa, grazie alla straordinaria prestazione di Enrico Toccacelo (BVB Borussia Dortmund) che, partito dalla seconda posizione, ha agguantato il comando dopo pochi giri per amministrarlo con efficacia durante l’arco di tutta la gara, incrementandolo fino a quasi dieci secondi.

Purtroppo, una caduta di pressione dell’olio ha privato il pilota romano della gioia della vittoria a pochi minuti dalla bandiera a scacchi, confermando quella che purtroppo, per lui, sembra una vera e propria “maledizione”. “Ho provato a resistere,” afferma sconsolato all’arrivo, “ma perdevo quasi due secondi al giro. Sembra proprio che in questa categoria io non riesca a vincere.” Per lui al traguardo solo la sesta posizione.

Il successo, per la prima volta nella storia della Superleague Formula, è andato così al club dell’Al-Ain, che si è preso una bella rivincita sulle più titolate formazioni rivali. A cogliere la vittoria il pilota olandese Paul Meijer, al suo secondo weekend in questa serie dopo aver debuttato con una pole position nell’ultimo evento disputato a Zolder proprio con la monoposto del Borussia Dortmund, prima di vestire la casacca del team degli Emirati Arabi Uniti.

“Non mi aspettavo proprio di vincere,” confessa. “Per me era tutto nuovo: il circuito, il team, la vettura… Eppure la squadra ha fatto un ottimo lavoro e mi ha messo in condizione di cogliere questo successo. Mi dispiace che Enrico abbia perso a così poca distanza dal traguardo, ma vincere qui è stata una sensazione incredibile. Sono sicuro che questo aiuterà l’Al-Ain a farsi conoscere nel mondo e a incrementare il suo bacino di tifosi e sono certo che, se continueremo così, non sarà l’ultima vittoria.”

Olandese di nascita anche il pilota autore della seconda posizione, Robert Doornbos, ma italiano di adozione non solo perchè veste i colori dell’AC Milan, ma perchè vive da anni nel nostro paese. Grazie a questo risultato, la squadra rossonera risale al quarto posto in classifica generale con 216 punti, 55 di distacco dalla vetta.

Per lui due piazze d’onore in altrettante gare in questa domenica, ma quella della seconda corsa è stata molto più complicata: “In virtù dell’inversione della griglia partivo dall’ultima fila, ma sono scattato benissimo e nei primi giri ho superato tanti avversari. Poi si è rotta anche la comunicazione radio con i box e ho dovuto guardare i cartelli che la squadra esponeva al muretto per capire quando rientrare per il pit stop. Questo risultato dà grande morale a me e alla squadra in vista dell’appuntamento di casa a Vallelunga.”

Completa la soddisfazione del Playteam, che gestisce oltre alla monoposto del Milan anche quella del Galatasaray SK, il terzo gradino del podio di Alessandro Pier Guidi. “Ieri la macchina era molto difficile da guidare,” spiega il pilota di Tortona. “Poi il team ha lavorato sodo stanotte e mi ha preparato un assetto perfetto. Sono molto contento e non vedo l’ora di correre a Vallelunga, pista che conosco molto bene.”

Un’altra quinta posizione, dopo quella di gara 1, per Davide Rigon (Beijing Gu’aon), al termine di un weekend molto difficoltoso ma che gli permette di conservare la leadership di campionato con 271 punti contro i 236 del più vicino degli inseguitori, il PSV Eindhoven. “All’inizio della gara andavo davvero forte,” spiega il veneto, “poi un problema al motore mi ha fatto rallentare.”

Per il team italiano Eurointernational, il quarto posto di Antonio Pizzonia (SC Corinthians), ad appena cinque secondi dal primo classificato, con il rammarico di aver perso altrettanti secondi ai box a causa di un’incomprensione con il Borussia Dortmund che stava ripartendo dalla sua piazzola. Ritiro, invece, per l’AS Roma e il suo pilota Franck Perera, vittima di un incidente con il Liverpool FC dopo soli quattro giri di gara.

Ben 25.000 gli spettatori giunti sulle tribune, in gran parte per tifare per il team di casa, l’FC Porto di Tristan Gommendy, purtroppo costretto a saltare la seconda gara per un problema tecnico al motore. Ci si attende un analogo successo di pubblico anche nel prossimo appuntamento, che si disputerà proprio in Italia, a Vallelunga (Roma), il 1° e 2 novembre prossimi. Il pubblico potrà così tifare per l’AC Milan, l’AS Roma e i piloti italiani e assistere allo spettacolo della Superleague Formula con ingresso gratuito in pista.

Il Liverpool beffa Milan e Roma nella prima gara della Superleague Formula ad Estoril

Si è trattato, insomma, di una sorta di riedizione motoristica della finale di Istanbul, che i ragazzi del Playteam (la squadra che gestisce in pista le operazioni dell'AC Milan) sperano sia semplicemente un preludio alla rivincita come accaduto ad Atene.

I rossoneri, guidati da Robert Doornbos, e i giallorossi, con Franck Perera, si sono così dovuti accontentare rispettivamente del secondo e del terzo gradino del podio, promettendo comunque battaglia per gara 2, in programma questo pomeriggio alle ore 14:00 locali (le 15:00 italiane).

"Il momento chiave della gara è stato il pit stop, seguito da un giro molto veloce che mi ha permesso di recuperare il distacco che nella prima parte di gara avevo accusato da Robert," ha dichiarato Adrian Valles a fine gara. "La macchina è stata ottima, salvo un po' di sovrasterzo sul finale che sono comunque riuscito a controllare bene."

Un deluso Doornbos spiega che a costargli la vittoria è stato il "surriscaldamento del motore", mentre Franck Perera, dopo un ottimo inizio in cui è andato subito in fuga, è stato vittima di problemi alla sostituzione delle gomme posteriori durante la sosta ai box.

I colori italiani dominano anche le posizioni a ridosso del podio. Il team Eurointernational coglie infatti la quarta e la sesta posizione con Antonio Pizzonia (Corinthians), alla sua miglior prestazione dell'anno, e Andy Soucek (Atletico Madrid). Lo spagnolo Soucek è stato nettamente il più veloce della gara, recuperando dalla sfortunata partenza in cui il motore è andato in protezione a causa della temperatura troppo elevata.

Quinto il veneto Davide Rigon (Beijing Gu'aon), che conserva la leadership di campionato. "Dopo una prima parte di gara in cui andavo fortissimo, sono stato rallentato da problemi al cambio e ho dovuto soffrire negli ultimi giri," ha commentato.

Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) giunge invece settimo dopo una bella rimonta dalla diciassettesima posizione di partenza: "Il passo era ottimo e la macchina è migliorata molto grazie ad una serie di modifiche che abbiamo apportato nel corso delle sessioni e che approfondiremo ulteriormente per gara 2."

Finisce subito, invece, la gara del romano Enrico Toccacelo (BVB Borussia Dortmund), coinvolto in un incidente alla partenza con la monoposto dell'FC Basel di Max Wissel. Grazie all'inversione completa della griglia, comunque, Toccacelo potrà partire in prima fila nella seconda corsa.

Il tricolore sventola in Portogallo

Il nuovo pilota francese della squadra giallorossa, Franck Perera, ha così colto la miglior prestazione nella sessione di qualifica al suo weekend di debutto nella categoria, regalando alla sua formazione la prima partenza al palo della sua storia.

"Sono appena arrivato, ieri ho fatto il sedile e oggi sono già in pole," ha sorriso Perera. "Sono felice di rappresentare una squadra italiana, visto che ho vissuto per ben sei anni in questo paese. Sono andato bene fin dalle prime prove libere e questo sistema di qualifica, differente dal solito, mi ha divertito molto. Sono tornato in Europa dopo due anni negli Stati Uniti e ora abbiamo buone possibilità di vincere entrambe le gare domani."

L'alfiere dell'AC Milan, l'olandese Robert Doornbos, si accomoderà al suo fianco in prima fila: "Questa mattinata è stata caotica. Alcuni pezzi sono arrivati all'ultimo momento, quindi il team ha fatto un lavoro notevole per preparare la mia vettura e migliorarne l'assetto nel corso delle sessioni. In qualifica non abbiamo più toccato l'auto e ci siamo concentrati sul miglioramento delle prestazioni giro per giro. Non sono contento di essere stato battuto in finale, ma fa parte dello show. Caro Franck, goditi la pole di oggi, perchè domani sarà diverso..."

Milan e Roma hanno battuto rispettivamente il Liverpool FC e l'Olimpiacos, che formeranno la seconda fila della griglia della gara 1 che prenderà il via domani alle 11:00 ora locale (12:00 ora italiana).

Giornata agrodolce, invece, per i piloti italiani. Il leader del campionato Davide Rigon, che difende i colori della cinese Beijing Gu'aon, è stato ancora una volta velocissimo, ma ha avuto la sfortuna di incontrare già nei quarti di finale, in una sorta di "finale anticipata", l'AC Milan, da cui è stato battuto per un soffio. Il veneto partirà dunque dalla sesta posizione, ma si è detto molto fiducioso per domenica.

"E' stata colpa mia, perchè montando le gomme nuove la macchina andava più forte ma io non mi sono fidato di spingere al massimo nei primi due settori," ha spiegato. "Comunque le buone prestazioni della nostra monoposto mi fanno ben sperare per domani."

Problemi alla pompa della benzina hanno invece frenato il romano Enrico Toccacelo, solo settimo alla sua prima gara con il Borussia Dortmund. Quindicesima posizione per il pilota di Tortona Alessandro Pier Guidi, portacolori del Galatasaray SK.

Both Scuderia Playteam AC Milan and Galatasaray SK cars finish in race two at Zolder

Scuderia Playteam started the second Superleague Formula race at Zolder starting from pole and third row respectively for Robert Doornbos (AC Milan) and Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) after the grid was reversed following the morning race. Again the compulsory pit stop in this 44 minutes long race was programmed in the window of laps 8 and 20.

Robert Doornbos (AC Milan) finished the race in a respectable fourth place, adding additional points to his current score of 90 points this afternoon. Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) finished in 12th , also adding additional points that takes him higher in the championship.

Robert Doornbos driving AC Milan car had a hard time maintaining his advantage ahead of Beijing Guaon who passed him right after the start. Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) started from six maintaining this position into lap 2 as the safety car came out for the first time of the session after an accident in the pack. The safety car came in after five long laps and the race restarted. After the restart Guidi (Galatasaray SK) spun and lost his advantage in third line to a 15th place.

Both cars drove a competitive race from their positions on the reversed grid.

Robert Doornbos (AC Milan) commented: "I was lucky to have my car ready at the start considering the damage that we had after my flying off on Rigons wheel in race 1. But I am not afraid to tell you that this was the worst ever race weekend for me. However, I want to thank my mechanics and engineers and all the team. Everyone did a fantastic job and in record time. I could not stop Rigon from passing me in the first lap. Then the safety car was in front of us for five laps. After the restart I did not stop AS Roma and Olympiacos. But Kasper Andersen (Olympiacos) spun and finally I was third behind Beijing and AS Roma. Beijing was already eight seconds ahead of us. We decided against a very early pit stop and waited until lap 16. Toccacello in AS Roma pitted on lap 14 and Beijing on lap 16. That brought me in the lead for a few turns, but Rigon kept the lead since the gap between us was so big. The track conditions were still wet but with some dry spots appearing in some places and a lot of dirt and mud in some of the corners where the competitors went off. After my pit stop, I came back in sixth place and could not push harder. I was at the limit. Nevertheless in the fight ahead of me for 2nd position, Sevilla spun on lap 21 spraying a lot of dirt on the track and loosing time. Buurman (Eindhoven), Duncan Tappy (Tottenham) and Toccaccelo AS Roma were fighting fiercely ahead of me, but I was able to pass and to finish in the last lap in fourth, just missing the podium by a small margin.

Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) added: "I took a good start. But then after the safety car came back in after five laps, my tires were cold and I encountered serious brake problems. I spun and lost by good position. We pitted on lap 11 and it went smoothly and I saved time. But I could not change my position much with a mixed conditions track that was very dirty in some of the chicanes. I would have liked to have finished higher, but the track was too wet to take any risks. At least I brought the car back in one piece. I am looking forward to the next race in Estoril.

Scuderia Playteam AC Milan and Galatasaray SK have a busy first day at Zolder

Scuderia Playteam ’s two V12 750-horsepower cars were in action at a cool Zolder track for the first practice sessions today. Robert Doornbos - AC Milan reached semifinals in the qualifying rounds only and Alessandro Pier Guidi - Galatasaray SK stopped in sixth place after the first fifteen minutes of qualifying.

Early morning as the drivers arrived, the track was still damp from rain during the night, but it was sunny even if the temperature was very cool. At the wheel of the yellow and red Galatasaray SK car was Italian Alessandro Pier Guidi while Dutchman Robert Doornbos was driving the red and black AC Milan car.

The free practice format was modified following the last race with only two practice sessions left on the schedule instead of three like in Donington or Nuerburgring. In the Saturday morning first practice session, Alessandro Pier Guidi - Galatasaray SK was among the first drivers to get out early on the still wet Zolder track and completed two out and ins so that the team can fine-tune the glitches on the car. Practice stopped after 20 minutes of the start of the session after BVB Borussia Dortmund went off the track.

AC Milan was on their first flying lap and pitted to wait for the restart of the session It was a quick interruption though for all cars allowing the teams to quickly start again. After seven laps, Alessandro Pier Guidi - Galatasaray SK spun a bit off track and drove back to the pits for further checks. As the checkered flag fell, behind Atletico Madrid who finished 1.32.669, AC Milan clocked a best time of 1.35.928 for the 12th spot. Galatasaray SK clocked a best time of 1.37.994 after only 7 laps.

The second session allowed the teams to complete some more useful work in preparation of the afternoon qualifying session. During the second practice session the track had considerably improved and was dry almost everywhere. AC Milan clocked twelve laps with an eighth best time of 1.20.283 and Alessandro Pier Guidi - Galatasaray SK completed a twelfth best time of 1.20.782 after fourteen laps.

In qualifying, the Superleague Formula teams were as usual split into two equal groups for two separate 15-minute qualifying sessions at 1.30 PM. Following these sessions, four cars from each group proceeded to the later knockout stage. At Zolder, the draw for qualification placed AC Milan in group A while Galatasaray SK was selected to competing in group B.

In group A, Robert Doornbos - AC Milan was second quickest after six laps in the first batch of drivers for this first part of the qualifying along with Liverpool FC; BVB Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla FC, Glasgow Ranger, AS Roma, FC Basel, PSV Eindhoven and Olympiacos. Then Robert finished the quickest with 1.17.309 clocking best time on his eighth lap. Behind him were Sevilla, by 0.074s (1.17.383), Liverpool and BVB Borussia Dortmund also in the top four. Robert Doornbos - AC Milan went out against RSC Anderlecht, UK Craig Dolby but lost in semi-finale against Dolby and only scored 1.18.169 on the clock.

In group B, Alessandro Pier Guidi - Galatasaray SK finished 2nd fastest with 1.18.669 in the first part of the qualifying session including FC Porto, Al-Ain, Beijing Guoan, Anderlecht, Tottenham Hotspur, SC Corinthians, Flamengo and Atletico Madrid. Then Guidi finished sixth fastest with 1.18.563 which meant he was not qualified and finished 1.694s behind Atletico Madrid, FC Porto, Beijing, Anderlecht and Tottenham.

Robert Doornbos (AC Milan) commented: "Not such a good day. I am disappointed for the team not to have made it all the way to the top. I lost in the semifinal against Craig Dolby. Today, I am not too pleased about our car's performance. This morning we tried a few solutions, but it was not what we were looking for, which impacted on our qualifying effort. Originally, I was happy to be in group A, but the semifinal was not what I expected and I did not have the right type of tires. During the session, I also had to be careful with the brakes and that did not help my performance either. Hopefully, we can solve all the issues for tomorrow. With a good strategy, let's hope that the race will work out."

Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) commented: "It would have been important to quickly find the correct pace in the morning. But the damp conditions and the cold temperature at the track prevented me to have a good feeling for the car. With a shortened running time in free practice, we could not progress in our program and did not work well with the tires. I was not find my best pace and did not have the car needed today to be strong in qualifying and participate in the final shoot out. I only came sixth instead of 4th in my B qualifying group, the strongest of the two groups."

Scuderia Playteam aims for another podium at Zolder this weekend

Scuderia Playteam's two V12, 750-horsepower cars featuring the colours of international football club Galatasaray SK on one car, and the popular magic red and black colours of AC Milan on the other are ready for this weekend's third round of the Superleague Formula season this coming weekend and intend to repeat the deed.

25-year-old Dutch driver Robert Doornbos who races in the prestigious red and black livery of AC Milan explains: "I am looking forward to driving in Zolder. Last year, I raced here and was fighting with Sebastien Bourdais for the win. In the end, I didn't get on the podium so this time I'm more determined than ever to win the race. My goal is to get back on the podium and repeat our success of the Nuerburgring weekend. The Zolder track is substantially narrower than the Nuerburgring which should make race two especially exciting. Italian Alessandro Pier Guidi will gear up for action at the wheel of the Galatasaray SK car together with rookie driver Turkey Jason Tahinci.

Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) commented: "I am eager to repeat the Nuerburgring results and to try also to get a good result for race two. It will be difficult to pass on this narrow track. AC Milan and Galatasaray SK both score points in race two

Robert Doornbos (AC Milan) finished the race sixth, taking 29 additional points this afternoon and putting AC Milan tenth in the championship. Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) finished in seventh, scoring an additional 26 points that takes him to ninth in the championship.

Both cars drove a competitive race from their positions on the reversed grid with Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) one of the first group of drivers to pit on lap 9 while Robert Doornbos (AC Milan) staying out until lap 11.

Pier Guidi was up to sixth and Doornbos seventh as the safety car came in after dealing with a Glasgow Rangers spin and stall in the middle of the track. The two Scuderia Playteam SaraFree cars fought for position. After Alessandro Pier Guidi, pushing hard, made a mistake in the first corner of the final lap, Robert Doonrbos passed him.

AC Milan went on to finish sixth with Galatasaray SK in seventh.

Robert Doornbos (AC Milan) commented: "The second race went well. I had a good start even if it was a bit messy around me. However, I was disappointed that I could not gain any positions at the start. That would have changed the race although I am convinced that the winner of race one is really penalised having to start from the back in the reversed grid. There is no way you can get back in a strong position in the front in normal conditions unless the weather intervenes in your favor. I did not have a lot of problems in the race. Atletico Madrid touched wheels with me, but luckily nothing happened. It did not damage the car too much allowing me to continue at the same pace. Overall the weekend went well and we made good points. I am ready for the next weekend of racing in Zolder."

Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) added: "It was a good race. The start was alright, at least better than in race 1, but I was missing speed. I am not sure if it was necessary to bring out the pace car for a car stalled in the middle of the track with no debris scattered anywhere. The marshals could have possibly pushed it clear of the track without danger. Anyway, I do not know if it was dangerous for them to go onto the track at that point of the race. I want to thank the team for their great help over this weekend. At least, I am pleased with the points we scored."

With a win, two podiums this weekend and scoring points in race two, Team Galatasaray SK ranks 9th in the Superleague Formula Championship with 90 points and Team AC Milan is 10th with 85 points.

Scuderia Playteam puts 2 drivers on the podium and win from pole at Nuerburgring

Roma's Enrique Toccaccello, Soucek (Atletico Madrid) and Adrian Valles (Liverpool) started from the pit lane. Nelson Philippe (BVB Borussia Dortmund) stopped and was out of the race.

In the first laps, Robert Doornbos driving the AC Milan car was under pressure from SC Corinthians but tried to widen the gap managing a really fast lap 5 with a 1.44.924. It was a good enough effort to be able to resist the Corinthians driver Antonio Pizzonia's pressure.

Robert Doornbos AC Milan pushed hard, and the strategy worked. He manages to extend the lead. On lap 8, he is 4.420s ahead of SC Corinthians. The window for pit stops was then opened. Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) was the first of the cars to stop and change to fresh tires. Pier Guidi was soon followed by the Porto car who lost 8 seconds in the pit stop with a stuck rear wheel. Third place Anderlecht made a quick pit stop on lap 10, ahead of Robert Doornbos - AC Milan. Doornbos rejoined the race in the lead after a perfectly executed pit stop. Soon after him, it was Alessandro Pier Guidi’s turn in the Galatasaray SK car to ramp up the speed on lap 11 with 1.44.148.

In the second part of the race after all cars had completed their pit stops, Milan AC was still leading the race with Alessandro Pier Guidi - Galatasaray SK in third place, 6.856 behind Craig Dolby in RSC Anderlecht. There was a bit of emotion in the race as Duncan Tappy (Tottenham Hotspur) spun out but his position at the end of his misadventure did not bring the pace car out The two Playteam SaraFree drivers managed to hold on to their positions and take a one and three that brought both of them onto the podium.

Robert Doornbos (AC Milan) commented: "Overall the weekend went well. A pole position and a win for the 24 lap long first race was outstanding. It was an incident free race. My principal focus was on the tires. They were quite cold resulting in a bit of a tire lockup at the start. So I was really taking care. I felt vibrations on the first stint. I wanted to maximize the tires. It is easy to the get pressure wrong on the tires but the team as usual did a good job. We really guessed well today. I maintained a good pace and wanted to bring the car home with a win. The team did a great job in the pit stop. I am really pleased to hand the team a win, because they worked so hard after the bad first race in Donington. At least now we have started to score points in the classification. 56 points is a good start. The car is easy to drive. It is fun to drive. I loved the race today."

Giambattista Giannoccaro, Team owner and Team founder. " It was an excellent result for the team. It is a great success because Playteam has never raced at this high level and is not a specialist of single seater races. I am really pleased to have two drivers on the podium today. Proud of Robert of course and enthusiastic about Alessandro who had never raced on this track before in his career. A first for him.

Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) added: "I am so happy to have scored a podium today. The first of my career with Superleague Formula. The car was well setup. The team did a great job today. I am very happy to be on the podium. I am sorry that the start was not so OK. But I did a great effort managed to come back strongly. Now we have 64 points in the classification. A good start for the day. A reverse grid start will be interesting. It will be difficult not to have an accident with anyone."

Let's see how our second race will go in two hours time as Robert this time will not be leaving from pole as the grid will be reversed."

Scuderia Playteam locks out front row with AC Milan on pole

The morning draw placed Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) in Group A for qualifying and Robert Doornbos (AC Milan) in Group B. At the end of his 15 minute qualifying session Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) had covered seven laps and was third fastest with a lap of 1.43.363. In Group B, Robert Doornbos (AC Milan) set the overall fastest time of 1.42.920 and both progressed to the knockout stage.

In the knockout session the eight fastest cars battled in a time attack format where no tyre change or refuelling was allowed. The first two cars were sent off as a pair for three laps in following sequence: FC Basel-Flamengo, AC Milan-FC Porto, Corinthians-Liverpool, RSC Anderlecht-GalatasaraySK. Both Galatasaray SK and AC Milan won their rounds and set themselves up for a pole position shootout between them. However Galatasaray SK's car did not have enough fuel on board for the shootout and AC Milan took pole position.

Robert Doornbos (AC Milan) commented: "Overall I had great fun in this qualifying session; it was much better than at Donington. I am really happy for the team. We arrived as favourites in Donington but suffered from fuel problems and the car caught fire. The team made changes showing that we are learning fast. It's a good thing that we're allowed to use tyre warmers here with these low temperatures. We need to work hard now on the race strategy with the engineers. I hope the weather won't change. I am very used to the rolling starts from my previous career in Champcar, but anything can happen in a race."

Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) added: "I am happy because I only drove four laps this morning because of parts that arrived late making it a bit hard to catch up. The whole team worked so hard. I am glad to repay them with this good position. It was a great result for someone like me who had never seen the track before. To be honest, I was not hoping for this outcome. The set up is perfect. The track is difficult, but I am learning and getting more confident with every lap. I have to find the good rhythm for tomorrow's race but it was a great day for us."

Q and A with Robert Doornbos - AC Milan

Q) A pole at Nuerburgring - is it the best possible position after the Donington weekend?

A) Yes, it is a really great position to be in. I am happy to have worked so hard with the team. When the car did not work like in Donington, I couldn’t do miracles. So here, at Nuerburgring, it is a great result and basically my championship starts here.

Q) How similar is this car to Champcar?

A) Every car has its own traits. Starting with the engine, it is heavy in tis formula. So I'm not as comfortable as I was in Champcar. Donington was disappointing because of the technical issues. But Superleague is a competitive car. I hope to win some races here.

Q and A with Alessandro Pier Guidi - Galatasaray SK

Q) No fuel for the final shoot out, what happened?

A) Indeed, in the first shoot out we completed a lot of laps. So I remained without fuel for the last part. So we could not finish the final shoot out with Robert. We would have been disqualified if we had refuelled.

Q) Any team orders for the start tomorrow?

A) Of course not! We have two different cars and two different situations. As long as we do not do anything stupid at the start, that's the main thing!

Scuderia Playteam had a hard first round for the Donington Superleague Formula

Unfortunately both cars suffered engine failures and did not finish the first race. Robert Doornbos' (AC Milan) engine could not be fixed in time for race two leaving only Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) holding up the hopes of the team. But heavy rainfall meant Alessandro Pier Guidi had a short race after aquaplaning on the fifth lap, although he had been running third at the time.

In race one Robert Doornbos (AC Milan) was unable to finish the first lap, despite passing three cars at the start while Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) was running in eighth. Robert Doornbos (AC Milan) suffered a fuel leak, causing a failure on the V12-powered 750-horsepower engine. Doornbos was the first driver out of the race. Meanwhile, Alessandro Pier Guidi in Galatasaray SK car was sixth in the classification until a cruel engine failure on lap ten forced him out of the race.

Robert Doornbos (AC Milan) commented: "Overall the weekend went well until the start of the first race. Of course, I am bitterly disappointed with the incident with my car at the start of the race. I was used to the rolling starts from my previous career in Champcar and things should have gone better especially because I was third at turn one. I do not know the problem because from the start, there was a fuel leak in my car and my overalls were very wet with fuel. The next thing I knew was a big fire behind me. Then there was no power and the car was not moving. Unfortunately the car could not come back early enough to the pits so that the mechanics could fix it for race 2 and I was not able to start. It's a real shame not only was I set to start from pole, but also Franco Baresi had come to watch our race and I hate to disappoint my heroes!"

Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) added: "I am sorry I did not see the chequered flag in race one. The car was well set-up and the start was OK so I am very disappointed to have lost my car after a big engine blow out producing a lot of white smoke. I had the first indication of trouble as the safety car was ahead of us and the water temperature was very high. Then the safety car disappeared and then the incident occurred. Luckily, going off, I did not damage it so I could at least start the second race after the mechanics and engineers repaired the car in record time. With Robert's absence from pole that created a hole on the grid in front of me, in fact, I was able to make a very good start. Because the rain was very strong, the safety car came out for over three laps. Despite the fact that there was still a lot of water on the track, we restarted on lap 6. By then I was third and fighting severe aquaplaning. Eventually I went off losing my rear wing just before the safety car was deployed again."

Team Galatasaray SK scored 24 points over the week-end and team AC Milan 6 ponts total while Beijing Gu'Aon leads the classification with 79 points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur (72) and Liverpool FC (72)

Scuderia Playteam has first qualifying experience in Superleague Formula at Donington placing 5th and 7th

The morning draw placed Alessandro Pier Guidi in the Galatasaray SK car in the first A group and Robert Doornbos driving for AC Milan in the second B group. After seven laps, Alessandro Pier Guidi - Galatasaray SK clocked the fourth fastest time of 1.20.087 after the first separate individual 15 minute qualifying sessions.

From these sessions, four cars from each group were to proceed to the knock-out stage. His car was selected for the second part of the qualifying and was sent off as a pair with Davide Rigon from Beijing Guoan. In the second session, group B, Robert Doornbos - AC Milan finished in second place of the four cars with a fast time of 1.19.155, 0.409s behind Davide Rigon and Beijing Guoan who were fastest.

Later, the eight fastest cars battled in a time attack format where no tire change and no refueling was allowed and the first two cars were sent off as a pair for three laps in the following sequence: Sevilla FC and Tottenham Hotspur, then Galatasaray SK-Beijing Guoan; PSV Eindhoven and AS Roma, and finally Olympiacos and AC Milan. This is where AC Milan and Galatasaray SK's drivers could not find the grip and the traction that they needed to go faster and were only part of the quarter final.

Overall, Alessandro Pier Guidi - Galatasaray SK only battled in the first quarter final against Beijing Guoan finishing with a time of 1.20.683 earning him a fourth row start in seventh place on the grid for the first race.

Robert Doornbos - AC Milan equally battled only in the quarter final and finished with a time of 1.20.160 that earning him fifth place and a third row position while Beijing Guoan will start the race from the pole.

Robert Doornbos - AC Milan explained: "Overall I had great fun in this qualifying session and format even if I am a bit disappointed with my final time because we started well in the first part. But we are reasonably happy with the pace even if we encountered some small technical problems like a gearbox downshift failure. We need to work hard on race strategy. It will be interesting to be so heavy on fuel during tomorrow's race and the strategy about fuel consumption, nursing and consuming tires will be key. I am very used to the rolling starts from my previous career in Champcar. If we work blind on the set-up before the race it will be a gamble because test it out."

Alessandro Pier Guidi - Galatasaray SK continued: "As such position 7 in qualifying, is not a bad result even if I always prefer to be faster. After my first experience, I can say that I prefer a "traditional" qualifying format. Reversing the result of race 1 to form the grid for race 2 is an interesting way to start a race. To complicate our tactical approach I am not sure that Donington Park track allows for much overtaking. During qualifying, we struggled a lot with the set-up. I do not know why the times in the morning were fast and later more slow. I suppose it has to do with the Donington track where races are tricky because there are constantly changing conditions. No one in the team has raced here before, but I am confident that the engineers will sort out the problems for tomorrow's race."

Gabriele Tredozi - Technical Manager Scuderia Playteam added: "Everyone did a very good job in carefully preparing the season. Today Doornbos - AC Milan set his best time in the first lap of the outing of group B. But Scuderia Playteam was hoping to be top three in qualifying with our cars AC Milan and Galatasaray SK. However we are 5th and 7th in the placement. Without changing anything on the car between the first and second part of the session, we lost a second a lap in the second part of qualifying, possibly because it was hard to warm up the tires and to find a good balance. Tomorrow the race will be a lot about race strategy with no pit stops and full fuel with a possibly 85 to 90 kilos load of fuel on a rolling start that will be hard for tires. It top it off rain is forecast. One of the keys to the race will certainly be the rolling start with which one of our drivers Robert Doornbos - AC Milan has experience. You need to be wise and cautious as well as fast. Reliability should not be an issue for the team. Let's see how our first 44 minute long race goes.
