FAVORITE FOOTBALL MOMENT: “That’s difficult. Actually, the most memorable one is when Holland lost a match, so it’s not a very good moment! It was Euro 2004, and I watched it in England when I was racing there, just before I got on a flight. It was Holland against Portugal, in the semi-final, and we lost 2-1.”
WHICH FOOTBALL CLUB DID YOU SUPPORT GROWING UP: “To be honest when I was really young I was always racing, always on the track, so I did not really have time to suport a team.”
FAVORITE ALL-TIME FOOTBALLER: “Again, it’s difficult to says as there were lots of really good players in Holland. Patrick Kluivert was one of the big players and played for Holland in all the big European and and world matches.”
CAN YOU PLAY FOOTBALL: “No! I played at school, of course, but not for a team or anything. It was just in the breaks, a kickaround. It’s good fun, but obviously with racing, I don’t get much time for that now.”
CAREER: Hardworking Dutch racer Yelmer Buurman has crammed competition in several top series into his career, racing all across Europe.
After karting in the UK and Holland, Buurman stepped up to Formula Konig, following this with Formula Renault campaigns in England and his home nation. The next category he tried was British Formula 3, finishing fourth overall in his first full season, and from there on to the Euroseries Formula 3.
This year Buurman debuted in the GP2 Asia Series, scoring a podium, and progressed with a campaign in the main GP2 category until switching his focus to the Superleague Formula.
