Doornbos Set to Return to Assen

05/08/2011 Dornboos Set to Return to Assen

Superleague Formula favourite Robert Doornbos returns to Assen this weekend to put in some hot demonstration laps of the famous TT circuit in his 4.2 litre, V12 car. The Dutch driver will be on hand to give thousands of race fans attending the Gamma Racing Day a look at just what a Superleague car can do.

Superleague fans will remember that on his last visit to the circuit, in the Superleague Grand Prix of Assen, which has become the most important race to take place in the Netherlands, Doornbos was involved in a titanic struggle for the race lead with fellow Dutch driver Yelmer Buurman, only for the two  to make contact, which launched Doornbos high over the kerbs and effectively ended his race weekend. The image of the super fast 750 BHP V12 racing car bearing GAMMA RACING DAY colours and leading the pack will however be remembered by the fans as one of the most spectacular races for the ex-F1, Champcar and Indycar driver at Assen.

Dutch Moto Grand Prix riders Jasper Iwema (125cc) and Michael van der Mark (Moto2), will also put in runs on their GP bikes.
Doornbos will be a part of a huge number of demonstrations at Assens, in what is planned to be biggest combined car, motorcycle and superkart race event ever held in the Netherlands.

The event also focuses on some possible race machines of the future. Among these will be Dutch driver Tim Coronel in his electric powered buggy, which he will compete in the world famous Dakar Rally.

The GAMMA RACING DAY will also be the venue for the high-profile debut run, of a 250 km/h high-speed electrical powered ‘Superbus’ developed by the first Dutchman in space, Prof. Dr. Wubbo Ockels.

Jasper Iwema, who will also race as a ‘wild card’ in TTXGP the eGrandPrix, the world’s first electrical powered motorcycle racing championship will also be lapping the famous old circuit.
